“I still feel the warmth and care today that I felt when I first toured,” said Liz Sela, resident of Roitenberg Assisted Living since 2019.
Having a short window of time after being discharged from the hospital, Liz and her family toured multiple living communities, yet none of them felt welcoming to her but Sholom.
“I needed extra care, and I wanted a place that could help me continue living on my own and one that had a sense of home,” Liz said. “As soon as I walked into Sholom and saw how bright and cheery things felt—and given my love of food, how centrally located the dining room was—I knew Sholom valued belonging and community.”
Liz’s hobbies include playing the piano, reading, sketching, and gardening. Her apartment overlooks a patio and has views of the trees and open space. “There is a wealth of activities and experiences for us here,” she said. “And having physical and occupational therapy onsite is fantastic.”
“I have taken trips to lakes to go fishing, experienced local concerts and sporting events, dined at unique restaurants, and attended programs that let me connect with other residents,” she shared. “I often cannot find the time to do everything that’s offered!”
To Liz, communities like Sholom are truly representative of our larger world. “Sholom feels global to me,” Liz said. “They honor Jewish heritage and tradition, while being open to all types of individuals who choose to live or work here. That’s important to me. Sholom really inspires community and caring – the values of compassion, care, kindness, and peace are truly upheld here.”
